Ticked off with apologetic 4×4s? The Nitro is Dodges in your face response. Andy Enright Reports

There is a school of thought that will find the Dodge Nitro utterly abhorrent. These are the people who froth at the mouth at gas-guzzling 4×4s, who will see the Nitros ostentatious looks and obviously road-going chassis and instantly bemoan the fact that this vehicle represents all thats wrong with motoring today. Reactionary local authorities may take a similar tack but rest assured the Nitro makes a good deal more sense than its arriviste looks would suggest.

Its based on the Jeep Liberty chassis and recent dust to dust reports commissioned by CNW Marketing Research of Oregon studied the environmental impact of vehicles from building through scrapping, and found that the Liberty was in the 8th slot . In case youre wondering, Maybach came in dead last, in company with the Volkswagen Phaeton, Rolls-Royce Phantom, Bentley Arnage, and a trio of Audis. The Toyota Prius ranked number 74 in the 96 cars studied in the report, so youll not have too much to worry about next time a Prius driver gives the Nitro a supercilious once-over. True, the entry level petrol engine is a 3. Dodge Charger spoilers, grilles best dash kits.

GM Talks Ethanol…Everyone Drink!

Dodge Charger spoilers, dash kits grilles.  With jugglers, rappellers, fake snow and skiers, there was a lot to distract from the central message of GM CEO Rick Wagoner’s speech: Ethanol. Citing several statistics about the benefits of ethanol – namely its enviro-friendliness – he went on to be surprisingly honest about how little of the stuff is actually available. This is a sticking point for GM, since the company has invested a lot of time and effort into making ethanol its short-term alternative fuel of choice.

The problem is infrastructure: There are a lot of cars that are capable of running on E85 (a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline), but very few places to actually get it. Wagoner claims that if all the cars currently capable of running on ethanol actually did so, we’d save tens of millions of gallons of gasoline each year.

So what to do when you’re a major automotive manufacturer betting a certain amount of the farm (no pun intended) on an agricultural fuel? Why, partner with a company that makes the stuff of course. However, the partnership was announced with Coskata, a company with a method of making ethanol from virtually any biomass or as it turns out, old tires.

GM states that when Coskata’s production facility is working at full capacity by 2011, it will be able to produce 50-100 million gallons of ethanol annually. According to the company, Coskata’s process makes ethanol for less than $1 per gallon, using less than 1 gallon of water per gallon of ethanol, and significantly less energy and fewer greenhouse emissions. Too good to be true? Sounds like it, but GM claims to have vetted the process thoroughly, and by throwing its considerable weight behind Coskata’s process it’s furthering its commitment to ethanol by helping to provide an infrastructure for the fuel. 2006 Dodge Charger: Pure Emotion! Part 2.

Dodge Charger spoilers, grilles best dash kits.  Alright, enough of the background. Let’s take a look at what this baby has to offer:
Four models: SE, SXT, R/T, and Daytona R/T
Two engine choices: a 3.5L High Output 24 valve V6 or a 5.7 L Hemi V8 w/multiple displacement
Rear-wheel drive with near 50/50 weight distribution
5 speed automatic transmission
18″ black sidewall touring tires
Cloth or leather trimmed bucket seats; optional performance seats with the Hemi
8 way power seats
Power windows and door locks
A host of available extras including: power sunroof, fog lamps, engine heat block, trunklid spoiler, cargo net, 160 MPH speedometer, etc.

Yes, the Dodge Charger is equipped with all the bells and whistles found in today’s hotrods and then some. The car comes in one body style a four door, five passenger sedan while earlier renditions of the Charger nameplate were two door fastback coupes. Still, for a sedan the car has very sleek and racy edges and a grill that is meant to intimidate.

Press coverage of the Charger has been highly favorable. Indeed, Automotive Magazine had this to say about the Charger:

The 2006 Dodge Charger is the latest in a remarkably long line of certain hits from the Chrysler Group. The new Charger has all the necessary ingredients, from an impressive line of engines to state-of-the-art electronic technology to the right mix of suspension and wheel-and-tire componentry to stand-out styling. So what if it isn’t a two-door coupe? We like it and think Dodge will sell every one it can build.

Naturally, this is the type of press that Daimler Chrysler has hoped for. Despite gas prices in excess of $2.50 per gallon the automaker should be able to sell the Charger to those with money to spare and with a desire to relive 1960s muscle car glory.

It has been a long time since American sedans have been competitive with their Japanese and European counterparts; the 2006 Dodge Charger will cause its competitors to stand up and take notice. A good thing indeed! Dodge Charger spoilers, grilles best dash kits.

2006 Dodge Charger: Pure Emotion! Part 1.

Dodge Charger spoilers, grilles dash kits.  You have got to hand it to Daimler Chrysler, the company behind the successful launch this summer of the 2006 Dodge Charger: the car hearkens back to the glory days of pure Dodge power while successfully incorporating the latest technologies from the German American automaker. One of the biggest names in the muscle car era has returned with a vengeance: the Dodge Charger.

When Daimler and Chrysler merged in 1998, many Mopar fans felt that an important era in American automobile manufacturing had abruptly come to an end. Indeed, the venerable maker of Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles would no longer be controlled exclusively from their Detroit base. Instead, the German manufacturer of luxury Mercedes automobiles would set the course and steer the company in the direction they wanted it to go. Or so it seemed.

Fortunately, what started out as a rocky marriage between a pair of perceived unequals has resulted in offspring that are, well, cool! It took several years for the relationship to get on track and that became evident with the release of the Chrysler 300M and Dodge Magnum vehicles. Both cars have performed very strongly since their release in 2004 and have literally set the ground work for a successful launch of the Dodge Charger earlier this year. The Charger is based on the same platform of the 300M/Magnum and was originally meant to have been a sedan version of the Magnum. Instead, Dodge gave the car its own personality.
